Conjunctions are joining words. They link two clauses to make them into one.

The main conjunctions in German are coordinating and subordinating conjunctions:

• coordinating conjunctions are simple and do not change the word order
• subordinating conjunctions send the verb to the end of the clause

There are also a few conjunctions which invert the verb and subject, but do not send them to the end of the clause.
