Jesus’ ascension (Luke 24:50-53)
Summary
Jesus led them out of the city as far as A village near Jerusalem., where he raised his hands and blessed them. He was then taken up into A place, or a state of mind, associated with God and the afterlife.. They worshiped him and went back into Jerusalem, filled with great joy, and spent all their time in the temple giving thanks to God.
Understanding the text
This incident took place 40 days after the The rising of Christ from the dead, three days after the crucifixion.. During this time, The second part of the Christian Bible containing 27 books consisting of four types of literature: letters (epistles), gospels, history and prophecy. writers record that there were many witnesses who saw Jesus after his resurrection.
The ascension literally means that Jesus ascended, or was taken up, to A place, or a state of mind, associated with God and the afterlife.. This is significant as it shows that he has returned to Heaven after completing his mission on Earth.
Christians believe that Jesus is in Heaven with God, until He decides to send Jesus to Earth for the final judgement. This event is known as the Parousia.
